7 Foods the Experts Won’t Eat

I love a good top-ten list, and it’s even better when it only goes to seven.  Less filler that way.

Here is a list of seven foods that “experts” avoid:

  1. Canned tomatoes -  BPA in the can lining can leach into the acidic red fruits.  You say tomato, I say endocrine disruptor.
  2. Corn-Fed Beef – That “marbling” you love is intramuscular fat, and it’s no better for you than it is for the cow.
  3. Microwave Popcorn – The lining of the bag contains PFOA and some other nasty chemicals.
  4. Conventionally Grown Potatoes – Root veggies can absorb the pesticides and herbicides applied to the field, and supposedly, potato farmers will grow a separate plot for their family sans the chemical soup.
  5. Farmed Salmon – Feeding fish poultry litter and chicken feathers, then bathing them in antibiotics does not produce a healthy fillet.
  6. Milk with Hormones - Higher levels of IGF-1 in the milk may contribute to breast, prostate, and colon cancers.  Cows are not milk machines, people.
  7. Conventionally Grown Apples – Pesticides abound, and apples are on the “Dirty Dozen Cheat Sheet”.

Visit the original article for a paragraph about the potential risks of each food, and to find out the identity of the expert.

Tell us which foods do you eat or avoid in the comments. Alton Brown has a DE-licious recipe for stove-top popcorn if anyone is interested!
