If you live in Duke Energy’s territory, you may be eligible for their new Solar Distributed Generation Program, approved by the utilities commission recently.  You provide the roof space, and they mount a solar panel and pay you rent.  You don’t get to use the energy, keep the carbon credits, or sell the RECs, but you also don’t have to maintain the system.

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are a Duke Energy Carolinas customer located in North Carolina.
  • You own the home or property.
  • The roof being considered is five years old or less.
  • The area being considered for solar panels is not shaded from the sun by trees or other obstructions.
